Der Titel inspirierte den US-Amerikaner zu einzigartigen Klanglandschaften, die vermitteln sollen, dass »bestimmte Orte auf dem Planeten Erde von einer Aura des Mysteriösen durchdrungen sind« und von alten Geschichten erzählen, die noch immer ins heutige Bewusstsein dringen. Die Erhabenheit von Landschafts- und Natureindrücken sind es, die Crumbs Landsfrau Augusta Read Thomas in »Words of the Sea« sublim in Szene setzt. Und »Réveil des oiseaux« des Franzosen Olivier Messiaen ist gleichsam von der Natur selbst komponiert. Sein musikalisches Material stammt von exotischen Vögeln. »Orion« von Claude Vivier schließlich verweist schon mit seinem Titel auf das ganze Universum, einen immerwährenden Inspirationsquell des kanadischen Komponisten, der davon ausging, dass die »inneren Räume« des Menschen ein Spiegelbild des Alls darstellen.
With Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Brad Lubman and the current contemporary program with works by Crumb, Thomas, Messiaen and Vivier, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony also gives guest performances in Antwerp, Berlin and Hamburg. »A Haunted Landscape« by George Crumbs takes the genre of night music to the extreme. The title inspired the U.S. American to create unique soundscapes intended to convey that »certain places on planet Earth are imbued with an aura of mystery« and tell of ancient stories that still penetrate contemporary consciousness. It is the sublimity of landscape and natural impressions that Crumb's compatriot Augusta Read Thomas sublimely sets the stage for in »Words of the Sea.« And »Réveil des oiseaux« by the Frenchman Olivier Messiaen is composed, as it were, by nature itself. His musical material comes from exotic birds. Finally, »Orion« by Claude Vivier refers with its very title to the entire universe, a perennial source of inspiration for the Canadian composer, who assumed that man's »inner spaces« are a reflection of the universe.
