Anfang Juni eröffnet das hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt mit seinem aktuellen »Artist in Residence« Víkingur Ólafsson die Weilburger Schlosskonzerte. Von Bach über Mozart bis Philip Glass reicht das facettenreiche Programm des Konzerts, das Víkingur Ólafsson auch leitet. »Der isländische Pianist ist eines der unerwarteten Klassik-Phänomene der jüngsten Zeit«, attestiert Die Welt, die sein Bach-Spiel so beschreibt: »Sehnig, mit Kraft wie Leichtigkeit, auf ein Ziel zentriert, ohne Hast. Als mathematischen Vorgang wie eine scheinbar freie Improvisation.« Als Bach-Pianist hat sich der Isländer einen Namen gemacht. »Man muss Bach nicht neu erfinden, man muss nur manchmal wieder deutlich machen, wie er ohne Perücke klingt,« sagt Víkingur Ólafsson, der dafür die Musik des Barockmeisters gerne mit der des Meister der Minimal Music Philip Glass kombiniert. Als das reizvollste der Mozart-Klavierkonzerte empfindet der 37-Jährige das in c-Moll, KV 491: »Das Werk ist wie ein Universum. Es existiert alles darin. Man fühlt die Romantik, die Klassik und den Barock. Der Anfang ist vermutlich die ungemütlichste Musik, die Mozart je komponiert hat, und ich liebe es, wenn er das tut. Denn so perfekt harmonisch, wie seine Werke klingen können, so unheimlich konnte Mozart komponieren.«
